Jennifer L. Armentrout fans usually fall into two camps: the readers who loved her long before From Blood and Ash, and the ones who discovered her through the breakout success of that series. Either way, if you’re looking for Jennifer L. Armentrout books in order, you’re in the right place.
I was aware of JLA before the From Blood and Ash craze, but I hadn’t actually read her yet. I gave one of her books a try and bounced off it at the time.
Then I kept hearing about From Blood and Ash over and over, so I finally picked it up shortly after A Kingdom of Flesh and Fire came out. I’ve been hooked ever since.

Jennifer L. Armentrout Books in Order
Below, you’ll find Jennifer L. Armentrout’s books and series in reading order, starting with her most popular worlds and then moving through the rest of her catalog. I’ve also included the books she published as J. Lynn later in the guide.
Blood and Ash World Reading Order
The Blood and Ash world includes both the main Blood and Ash series and the related Flesh and Fire books. Since these stories connect so closely, the easiest way to read them is in the combined order below.
I’ve also included the companion books where they fit, so you can follow the full story without bouncing between separate lists.
- From Blood and Ash (2020) (Blood and Ash Book 1)
- A Kingdom of Flesh and Fire (2020) (BA #2)
- The Crown of Gilded Bones (2021) (BA #3)
- A Shadow in the Ember (2021) (Flesh and Fire Book 1)
- The War of Two Queens (2022) (BA #4)
- A Light in the Flame (2022) (FF #2)
- A Soul of Ash and Blood (2023) (BA #5)
- A Fire in the Flesh (2023) (FF #3)
- Visions of Flesh and Blood (2024) (Compendium)
- Born of Blood and Ash (2024) (FF #4)
- The Primal of Blood and Bone (2025) (BA #6)
- A Crown of Ruin (2025) (Novella)
- The Throne of Bone and Ash (TBA) (BA #7)
Lux Universe Books in Order
The Lux universe includes the main Lux series, the Origin spin-off series, and a couple of related books that fit around the main story. The reading order below starts with Shadows, then follows the core Lux books before moving into the later Origin series.
Lux Series
Even though Obsidian was published first, Jennifer L. Armentrout recommends starting with Shadows. I’ve also included Obsession where it fits in the timeline and Oblivion as an optional Daemon POV retelling.
- Shadows (2012) (Prequel Novella)
- Obsidian (2011)
- Onyx (2012)
- Opal (2012)
- Obsession (2013) (Optional Lux-World Standalone)
- Origin (2013)
- Opposition (2014)
- Oblivion (2015) (Optional Daemon POV Retelling)
Note: Lux: Beginnings and Lux: Consequences are collected editions, not separate books in the series. They bundle earlier Lux novels into omnibus volumes, so I wouldn’t count them as extra entries in the reading order.
Origin Series
The Origin series is the Lux spin-off that follows Luc after the end of the main Lux books. Armentrout’s FAQ says The Darkest Star takes place four years after Opposition, so this is the section readers should move to after finishing the main series.
- The Darkest Star (2018)
- The Burning Shadow (2019)
- The Brightest Night (2020)
Covenant Universe Books in Order
The Covenant universe includes the main Covenant series and the related Titan spin-off series. I’d start with Covenant first, then move into Titan after that.
Covenant Series
- Daimon (2011) (Novella)
- Half-Blood (2011)
- Pure (2012)
- Deity (2012)
- Elixir (2012) (Novella)
- Apollyon (2013)
- Sentinel (2013)
Titan Series
The Titan series is a spin-off set in the same world and follows Seth after the Covenant books. It can be read on its own, but it makes the most sense here after finishing Covenant.
- The Return (2015)
- The Power (2016)
- The Struggle (2017)
- The Prophecy (2018)
Dark Elements World Books in Order
The Dark Elements world includes the main Dark Elements series and the related Harbinger spin-off series. You can start with Storm and Fury on its own, but this section makes the most sense in the order below, with The Dark Elements first and Harbinger after that.
The Dark Elements Series
- Bitter Sweet Love (2013) (Prequel Novella)
- White Hot Kiss (2014)
- Stone Cold Touch (2014)
- Every Last Breath (2015)
Harbinger Series
The Harbinger series is a spin-off set in the same world and follows Trinity Marrow. Jennifer L. Armentrout has said you do not have to read The Dark Elements first to start Storm and Fury, but readers who want the fullest context will still be better off reading the original trilogy before moving into this one.
- Storm and Fury (2019)
- Rage and Ruin (2020)
- Grace and Glory (2021)
Other Jennifer L. Armentrout Series
Not every Jennifer L. Armentrout series fits into one of her larger connected worlds. The books below are separate series that can each be read on their own.
Frigid Series
The Frigid series is one of Jennifer L. Armentrout’s contemporary romance series. Unlike her fantasy and paranormal books, these novels focus on college-age romance and friendship without any connected shared universe to keep track of.
Wicked Series
The Wicked series is Jennifer L. Armentrout’s New Orleans-set paranormal romance about Ivy Morgan, the Order, and the deadly fae hunting the city. It stands apart from her other fantasy worlds, so you can read it on its own without needing any background from her other series.
- Wicked (2014)
- Torn (2016)
- Brave (2017)
- The Prince (2018) (Novella)
- The King (2019) (Novella)
- The Queen (2020) (Novella)
The Summer King edition is a compilation that collects the previously published novellas The Prince, The King, and The Queen into one volume under a single title.
de Vincent Series
The de Vincent series is Jennifer L. Armentrout’s darker romantic suspense trilogy centered on the wealthy and deeply troubled de Vincent family in the Louisiana bayou. This one leans much more into gothic family drama, mystery, and romance than her fantasy-based series.
- Moonlight Sins (2018)
- Moonlight Seduction (2018)
- Moonlight Scandals (2019)
Awakening Series
Fall of Ruin and Wrath is the first book in Jennifer L. Armentrout’s Awakening series. It is an adult fantasy series set in its own world, so you can read it separately from her other universes and series.
- Fall of Ruin and Wrath (2023)
Jennifer L. Armentrout Standalone Books
In addition to her many series, Jennifer L. Armentrout has also written several standalone novels. These books are not tied to one of her larger worlds, so you can pick them up in any order.
- Cursed (2012)
- Don’t Look Back (2014)
- The Problem with Forever (2016)
- Till Death (2017)
- The Dead List (2017)
- If There’s No Tomorrow (2017)
J. Lynn Books in Order
J. Lynn is a pen name Jennifer L. Armentrout used for her adult and New Adult books. Even though these titles were published under a different name, they still belong in a complete Jennifer L. Armentrout bibliography.
Wait for You Series
The Wait for You series is the core of Jennifer L. Armentrout’s J. Lynn catalog and one of the best places to start with her New Adult romance books. The reading order below includes all of the main entries in the series.
- Wait for You (2013)
- Trust in Me (2013)
- Be with Me (2014)
- Stay with Me (2014)
- Fall with Me (2015)
- Dream of You (2015) (Novella)
- Forever with You (2015)
- Fire in You (2016)
Gamble Brothers Series
The Gamble Brothers books are J. Lynn contemporary romance novels and can be read in the order below.
- Tempting the Best Man (2012)
- Tempting the Player (2012)
- Tempting the Bodyguard (2014)
Nephilim Rising Series
At this point, Unchained is the only published book in the Nephilim Rising line. Armentrout’s FAQ says no future books are planned unless that changes and new titles appear on her books page.
- Unchained (2013)
J. Lynn Standalone Books
These are the J. Lynn standalones currently listed apart from her main series.
- Treble Damages (2012)
- Life’s Not a Beach (2013)
Jennifer L. Armentrout Adaptations
Jennifer L. Armentrout’s books have started making the jump to the screen, though her adaptation slate is still fairly limited. The clearest released examples so far come from the Wicked series, which has already been adapted by Passionflix. Wicked premiered in 2021, and Torn followed in 2022.
The biggest current adaptation news involves From Blood and Ash. In December 2024, ABC News reported that Sony Pictures Television acquired the rights to develop the series for television, with the planned adaptation covering the first five From Blood and Ash books.
There is also adaptation momentum around the Lux series. In September 2025, Deadline reported that Amazon MGM Studios was developing a Lux TV series, and Deadline again referenced Lux as one of Premeditated Productions’ recent TV projects in March 2026.
Jennifer L. Armentrout Books FAQ
What genre does Jennifer L. Armentrout write?
Jennifer L. Armentrout writes across several genres, including fantasy, paranormal romance, contemporary romance, thriller, and Young Adult fiction. Her catalog includes everything from the fantasy-heavy Blood and Ash world to YA series like Lux and contemporary standalones like The Problem with Forever.
Are Jennifer L. Armentrout books YA or adult?
Both. Some of her best-known series, like Lux, are officially classified as Young Adult, while others, like From Blood and Ash, are adult fantasy. She has also written adult and New Adult romance under the J. Lynn name.
Do all Jennifer L. Armentrout series connect to each other?
No. Most of Jennifer L. Armentrout’s series are separate from one another, but a few share the same world. The clearest connected pairs are Blood and Ash with Flesh and Fire, Lux with Origin, Covenant with Titan, and The Dark Elements with Harbinger.
Can you read Obsession without reading the Lux series?
Yes. Jennifer L. Armentrout’s FAQ says Obsession can be read without reading Lux, even though it takes place in the same world. That said, characters from Obsession do appear later in the Lux books, so some readers still prefer to slot it into the broader Lux reading order.
