#2 Brad Taylor Books in Chronological Order

This list of Brad Taylor books in order includes both the novels and the short stories and places them chronologically where they belong.

As with any chronological list, this is not recommended for first time readers. Only those rereading the series to gain greater insight should consider reading in this order.

Particularly, the Target is set before the Taskforce exists, thus making it first chronologically, but Brad himself mentioned that it’s a terrible place to start for a new reader and does nothing to help you understand the series.

.1 The Target (2016)
.2 The Callsign (2012)
1. One Rough Man (2011)
1.1 The Ruins (2018)
1.2 The Dig (2014)

8. The Insider Threat (2015)
9. The Forgotten Soldier (2015)
10. Ghosts of War (2016)
11. Ring of Fire (2017)
11.5 The Infiltrator (2017)
12. Operator Down (2018)
13. Daughter of War (2019)
13.5 Exit Fee (2019)
14. Hunter Killer (2020)
15. American Traitor (2021)
16. End of Days (2022)
17. The Devil’s Ransom (2023)
17.5 The Honeymoon Heist (2023)
18. Dead Man’s Hand (2024)

The placement of The Ruins within the list of Brad Taylor books in order is uncertain. While it was technically published just after Operator Down, it takes place after One Rough Man. Context also tells us it likely happened before The Dig, so we’ve placed it there.

Summary of the Logan Pike Books

Here is a summary of the first 15 Brad Taylor books in order for readers looking to get into a new series or find out what order they should be read in.

One Rough Man Brad Taylor Books in Order

One Rough Man

They call it the Taskforce. Their existence is as essential as it is illegal.

It is commissioned at the highest level of the U.S. government and protected from the prying eyes of Congress and the media. The Taskforce is built around the top operators from across the clandestine, intelligence, and special forces landscape. It is designed to operate outside the bounds of U.S. law and trained to exist on the ragged edge of human capability.

Pike Logan was the most successful operator on the Taskforce, his instincts and talents unrivaled-until personal tragedy permanently altered his outlook on the world. Pike knows what the rest of the country might not want to admit: The real threat isn’t from any nation, any government, any terrorist group. The real threat is one or two men, controlled by ideology, operating independently, in possession of a powerful weapon.

Buried in a stack of intercepted chatter is evidence of two such men. The transcripts are scheduled for analysis in three months, but the attack is mere days away. It is their bad luck that they’re about to cross paths with Pike Logan, who has nothing left to lose.

All Necessary Force

All Necessary Force

A terrorist hit is coming. CIA, FBI, and Department of Defense systems have spiked, but traditional intel is going nowhere. It falls to the Taskforce to stop the unknown conspirators.

A shadowy trail leads the Taskforce to Egypt – where an attack leaves one Taskforce member dead and another barely alive. Veteran warrior Pike Logan and his young partner, Jennifer Cahill, are forced to helm the increasingly convoluted and dangerous mission. A mission that tests both Jennifer’s ability to justify her actions, and Pike’s tenuous ability to stay in control.

Sifting their way through the opposing plots of two terrorist organizations will turn out to be the least of their problems when a weapon of unthinkable power touches American soil. The only country in which Taskforce members are forbidden to operate, and the only country that Pike Logan may be unable to save.

Enemy of Mine Brad Taylor

Enemy of Mine

A tentative peace between Israel and Palestine has been brokered by the United States. But the Taskforce gets wind of an assassination attempt on the American envoy sent to solidify the treaty. The Taskforce must devote every resource to saving his life—and preventing another bloody outbreak of violence.

Taskforce operator Pike Logan and his partner, Jennifer Cahill, are charged with following the assassin’s flimsy trail through the Middle East, a trail that becomes more muddled at every turn. They must contend with terrorist organizations, independent killers, and shaky allies to uncover the biggest threat of all.

An American citizen is hiding a secret that just may destroy everything, including the Taskforce.

The Widow's Strike Pike Logan

The Widow’s Strike

Invented by nature but genetically manipulated by man, a mutation of the H5N1 virus has fallen into the wrong hands. Angered by sanctions placed against its nuclear program, a rogue state is determined to release it. Their chosen method: One of the Black Widows.

The Black Widows is a group of female suicide terrorists of Chechen descent with the highest kill rate of any terrorist organization. By infecting her, then instructing her to detonate in the United States, her body will become the real weapon.

The only thing standing in the Black Widow’s way is the Taskforce, an extra-legal counterterrorism unit. Racing against time to prevent a global pandemic, Taskforce operator Pike Logan and his partner Jennifer Cahill follow the trail across Southeast Asia to the United States. Only to learn that the enemy they face may not be the enemy they should fear.

The Polaris Protocol Pike Logan Books in Order

The Polaris Protocol

Pike and Jennifer are in Turkmenistan with the Taskforce when Jennifer gets a call from her brother, Jack. Working on an investigative report into the Mexican drug cartels, Jack Cahill has unknowingly gotten caught between two rival groups. His desperate call to his sister is his last before he’s kidnapped.

In their efforts to rescue Jack, Pike and Jennifer uncover a plot much more insidious than illegal drug trafficking. The cartel that put a target on Jack’s back has discovered a GPS hack with the power to effectively debilitate the United States. The hack allows a user to send false GPS signals, making it possible to manipulate everything from traffic signals and banking wire transfers to cruise missiles.

With the GPS hack about to be exploited and Jack’s life at stake, Jennifer and Pike must find a way to infiltrate the cartel’s inner circle and eliminate the impending threat. The price of failure, for both the Taskforce and the country, is higher than ever.

Days of Rage Brad Taylor Books in Order

Days of Rage

The Taskforce is used to being the hunter, but this time they’re the hunted.

Intent on embroiling the US in a quagmire that will sap its economy and drain its legitimacy, Russia passes a potential weapon of mass destruction to Boko Haram, an extreme Islamic sect in Nigeria. A relic of the Cold War, the Russian FSB believes the weapon has deteriorated and is no longer effective, but they are wrong. Boko Haram has the means for mass destruction, which will be set loose upon a multitude of unsuspecting innocents on one of the world’s grandest stages.

Trying to solve the riddle of who might be stalking them, Pike Logan and the Taskforce have no idea what’s been set in motion. But there’s another secret from the Cold War buried in the Russian FSB. Exposing it will mean the difference between life and death—not only for Pike and his partner, Jennifer, but for perhaps millions more around the globe.

No Fortunate Son Pike Logan

No Fortunate Son

When veteran operator Pike Logan and partner Jennifer Cahill receive a letter from Blaisdell Consulting they expect orders for their next mission-impossible tasking. Instead, they learn that their latest actions have gotten them fired, despite having saved thousands of innocent lives.

Pike’s shock and fury is redirected when their commander, Colonel Kurt Hale, asks him and Jennifer for help with a personal matter. His niece Kylie, an exchange student in England, has gone missing. Neither Pike nor Jennifer understands how critical her disappearance will become.

Meanwhile, all Taskforce teams have been redirected to a developing situation. A terrorist organization has targeted military relatives of key members of the US government, including the vice president’s son. Their seizure of hostages was far-reaching and meticulously coordinated, and the full extent of the threat has thrown the government into turmoil.

They face a terrible choice: Cease counter-terrorist operations, or watch hostages die one by one. How much is a single life worth? Unless the Taskforce can decipher the web of lies devised by their enemies, the United States is about to find out.

The Insider Threat Brad Taylor

The Insider Threat

The United States has anticipated and averted countless attacks from terrorist groups. Thanks in large part to the extralegal counterterrorist unit known as the Taskforce. But in The Insider Threat, a much more insidious evil is about to shatter the false sense of safety surrounding civilized nations.

While world powers combat ISIS on the battlefield, a different threat is set in motion by the group. One that can’t be defeated by an airstrike. Off the radar of every Western intelligence organization, able to penetrate America or any European state, they intend to commit an act of unimaginable barbarity.

Only Pike Logan and the Taskforce stand in the way of an attack no one anticipates, a grand deception that will wreak unthinkable chaos and reverberate throughout the Western world.

The Forgotten Soldier Pike Logan Books in Order

The Forgotten Soldier

For years, the extralegal counterterrorist unit known as the Taskforce has worked in the shadows, anticipating and preventing attacks around the globe. Created to deal with a terrorist threat that shuns the civilized rule of law, it abandoned the same, operating outside of the US Constitution. Wildly successful, preventing disaster time and time again, it was rooted in a fear that the cure could be worse than the disease.

And now that fear has come home.

A Special Forces soldier is killed on an operation in Afghanistan. Complicit in the attack is a government official of an allied nation. While the US administration wants to forget the casualty, one Taskforce member will not.

When he sets out to avenge his brother’s death, his actions threaten to not only expose the Taskforce’s activities, but also destroy a web of alliances against a greater evil. Pike Logan understands the desire, but also the danger. Brought in to eliminate the risk, he’s now forced to choose between his friend and the administration he’s sworn to protect, confronted with the greatest threat he’s ever faced: A Taskforce Operator gone rogue.

Ghosts of War

The Taskforce has stopped countless terrorist threats across the globe, operating outside of US law to prevent the death of innocents. But now, along the fault lines of the old Iron Curtain, the danger is far greater than a single attack. With Russia expanding its influence from Syria to the Baltic States, the Taskforce is placed on stand-down because of the actions of one rogue operator.

Meanwhile, Pike Logan and Jennifer Cahill travel to Poland, hired to verify artifacts hidden for decades in a fabled Nazi gold train, only to find themselves caught amid growing tensions between East and West. A Russian incursion into Belarus under the façade of self-defense is trumped by a horrific attack against the United States, driving NATO to mobilize even as it tries to determine who is behind the strike.

On the brink of war, Pike and Jennifer discover that there is a separate agenda in play, one determined to force a showdown between NATO and Russia.  With time running out, and America demanding vengeance, Pike and Jennifer race to unravel the mystery before a point of no return is reached. Unbeknownst to them, there is another attack on the way.

Ring of Fire Pike Logan

Ring of Fire

Fifteen years ago, in order to win a contract in the Kingdom, a desperate defense contractor used a shell company to provide a bribe to a wealthy Saudi businessman. Now a powerful player in the defense industry, he panics when the Panama Papers burst onto the public scene. Providing insight into the illicit deeds of offshore financing, they could prove his undoing.

To prevent the exposure of his illegal activities, he sets in motion a plan to interdict the next leak, but he is not the only one worried about spilled secrets. The data theft has left the Taskforce potentially vulnerable, leaving a trail that could compromise the unit. Back in the good graces of the new president, Pike Logan and Jennifer Cahill are ordered to interdict the next leak as well, in order to control the damage.

Unbeknownst to either group, the Saudi has been using the shell company to fund terrorists all over the world. And he has a spectacular attack planned, coinciding with the fifteenth anniversary of 9/11. The information Pike and Jennifer uncover will put them on the trail of the imminent threat, but it’s one that they might be unable to stop.

Called Ring of Fire, it will cause unimaginable destruction across the United States, and the ensuing chaos and terror will distract the Taskforce from a truth no one sees: Ring of Fire was only the beginning, and the danger is far from over.

Operator Down Brad Taylor

Operator Down

It was supposed to be a simple mission. Merely assessing whether a merchant in the fabled Israeli Diamond Exchange was involved in a scheme that could potentially embarrass the state of Israel.

But nothing is ever simple in the world of intelligence. As Aaron Bergman—a former leader of an elite direct action team under the Mossad—should have known. Executing the operation as a contractor, which gave the State of Israel plausible deniability, he disappears without a trace.

Pike Logan and his team know none of this, but he’s tracking an American arms dealer in Tel Aviv who may—or may not—be attempting to sell sensitive nuclear weapons components to the highest bidder. When Pike’s team breaks up an attempt at killing Shoshana, Aaron’s partner, they stumble upon much more than they expected—a concerted conspiracy to topple a democratic African country.

Beginning to untangle a web that extends through both the American and Israeli intelligence community, Pike is forced to choose between his Israeli friends and his Taskforce mission. But Aaron’s disappearance is the one mistake the plotters made. Because Shoshana is the greatest killing machine the Mossad has ever produced, and she will stop at nothing to help Aaron, even if it means killing Pike Logan.

Daughter of War

Daughter of War

Hot on the trail of a North Korean looking to sell sensitive US intelligence to the Syrian regime, Pike Logan and the Taskforce stumble upon something much graver. The sale of a lethal substance called Red Mercury.

Unbeknownst to the Taskforce, the Syrians plan to use the weapon of mass destruction against American and Kurdish forces. They will then blame the attack on terrorists, causing western nations to reassess their participation in the murky cauldron of the Syrian civil war.

Meanwhile, North Korea has its own devastating agenda. A double-cross that will dwarf the attack in Syria even as it lays the blame on the Syrian government. Leveraging Switzerland’s fame for secrecy and its vast network of military bunkers, North Korea will use Red Mercury to devastate the West’s ability to deliver further sanctions against the rogue regime.

As the Taskforce begins to unravel the plot, a young refugee unwittingly holds the key to the conspiracy. Hunted across Europe for reasons she cannot fathom, she is the one person who can stop the attack. But only if she can live long enough for Pike and Jennifer to find her.

Hunter Killer Pike Logan Books in Order

Hunter Killer

Pike Logan and the Taskforce were once the apex predators, but they may have met their match. While Pike Logan and Jennifer Cahill prepare to join their team on a counter-terrorist mission in the lawless tri-border region where Argentina, Brazil, and Paraguay meet, they are targeted in Charleston, South Carolina.

A vicious explosion kills a friend, and the perpetrators have set it up to look like an accident. While the authorities believe this was not foul play, Pike knows the attack was meant for him.

When he loses contact with the team in South America, Pike is convinced he and the Taskforce are under assault. His men are the closest thing to family that Pike has, which means he will do anything to find them. Even ignore direct orders to stand down.

Pike and Jennifer head to Brazil to investigate their disappearance and run headlong into a crew of Russian assassins. Within days they are entangled in a byzantine scheme involving Brazilian politics and a cut-throat battle for control of offshore oil fields.

Forged in combat, the Russians are the equal of anything the Taskforce has encountered before. But they make a mistake in attacking Pike’s team. Pike has a couple of elite Israeli assassins of his own and he will stop at nothing to protect his family.

American Traitor Brad Taylor Books in Order

American Traitor

Pike Logan and Jennifer Cahill are enjoying a sunny vacation down under when they get disturbing news. Their friend and colleague Clifford Delmonty is in serious trouble. While working as a contractor at an Australian F-35 facility, the former Taskforce member—callsign Dunkin—saw something he shouldn’t have, and now he’s on the run from Chinese agents.

Pike and Jennifer soon discover that Dunkin’s attackers are linked to a much larger scheme that could launch a full-on conflict between China and Taiwan. In its quest for dominance, China is determined to reclaim Taiwan—a pivotal ally the United States has sworn to protect. Pike learns that the Chinese have a devious plan to bait the island nation into all-out war.

But as the threat reaches a boiling point, Pike alone realizes that what they’re seeing isn’t actually real. A soldier who has always been trained to fight and win, Pike must now track down and neutralize the missing man who holds the key. With the help of Jennifer, the Taskforce team, and a brave Taiwanese intelligence agent, he races to prevent a catastrophic conflict from consuming a whole region of the world.

End of Days

When a paragliding trip over the picturesque mountains of Switzerland results in the brutal murder of the former head of Israeli intelligence, Mossad brings in terrorist hunters Aaron and Shoshana to investigate. But they’ll need help to find out who was behind the attack and what they’re planning next. Luckily, Aaron and Shoshana know exactly who to call.

Taskforce operators Pike Logan and Jennifer Cahill have been trapped in Charleston, South Carolina during COVID-19. So when Aaron and Shoshana show up on their doorstep with Israeli passports and a new mission, they jump at the chance to assist their friends.

Some suspect that Keta’ib Hezbollah, an Iranian-funded militia group operating in Iraq, might be responsible for the “accidental” deaths of key members of the American and Israeli governments. But something isn’t adding up, and our group is determined to find the real assassins before more people are cut down.

As they stumble upon the trail of a serial killer loose on the streets of Rome connected to the deaths and follow evidence leading to the exalted Knights of Malta, they must wade deep into the contentious religious and political fractures of Israel and the greater Middle East.

It’s a dangerous world where fanatics and legitimate organizations exist side by side, and it’s up to the Taskforce to determine who is really pulling the strings. What they find could have disastrous consequences not only for them, but for the entire world…

  1. Wow. A lot of work put into this! Whenever I’m asked this question, I always recommend reading in publication order because the short stories flesh out the characters that are already known – and some of the short stories, such as The Recruit, if read in “chronological order” will give away spoilers for future full length novels (meaning they were published AFTER the novel in question, but set BEFORE that novel). In addition, some of the chronological order is incorrect. The Callsign is set BEFORE the activities of One Rough Man. The Target – the origin story of Aaron and Shoshana – is set before the Taskforce even exists, but reading that short story as the very first thing does nothing for the understanding of the series as a whole. It’s only AFTER Aaron and Shoshana are introduced in the full length novels that it makes sense. Hope this helps!

    1. Amazing, thank you! A lot of research went into it, but of course it’s hard to know exactly where some things fall. I appreciate the insight! I believe that I’ve updated the chronological list according to your direction. Thanks again!

  2. Well, my hope would have been that you wouldn’t recommend reading in chronological order, because reading The Target as the very first thing in the Taskforce series completely destroys the reason I wrote it and doesn’t include either Pike or Jennifer, but if you want to do that, then here is another correction: The Recruit is set before All Necessary Force, as it’s Decoy’s recruitment into the Taskforce and he’s a main character firmly entrenched by then. AND IT’S FULL OF SPOILERS FOR DAYS OF RAGE, five books later. But okay…I know you said I didn’t recommend reading this way, and I appreciate it, but I’d rather you just copied and pasted my first comment and said, “Here’s what the author said.” Thanks for all the work, though!

    1. Your comment makes sense, but I would suggest a forewarning for readers who are reading The Recruit anywhere after Days of Rage. For me (and I’m currently reading the series for the first time, but reading the entire series straight through), it was immediately jarring to see one of the main characters just a few days after reading Days of Rage, and had a hard time focusing on the story because the events in Days of Rage kept coming to mind.

As an aside, there are several different sites that offer lists of suggested reading order for the Taskforce series, and the lists vary pretty significantly. I see from your first comment that you usually suggest reading in publication order, but I didn’t find this site (and thus this note) until after I was 7 books and 4 short stories in. Can I suggest that you add a note to your website with your suggested reading order?
Thank you, and please keep writing, your style is exquisite and your detailed, well researched prose combined with plausible problems and solutions make your book almost impossible to put down!
