Janet Evanovich Books in Order: Every Series & Standalone

Looking for Janet Evanovich books in order? I’ve got the full list here by series, along with standalones, short stories, anthologies, and non-fiction.

Evanovich is best known for Stephanie Plum, but her bibliography goes well beyond Trenton bounty-hunting chaos. She’s written romantic comedies, adventure mysteries, co-authored series, graphic novels, and a few shorter extras, so I think the simplest way to read through her work is by series first, then standalones and bonus material after that.

Janet Evanovich Books by Series

Stephanie Plum may be the big one, but Evanovich has plenty of other series too. Some are romantic comedies, some are adventure mysteries, and some are co-authored crime capers with a very different feel from her Trenton books.

Elsie Hawkins Books

The Elsie Hawkins books come from Evanovich’s early romance era. They’re lighter, shorter contemporary romances, and Elsie herself is the kind of side character who tends to steal the scene whenever she shows up.

  1. Back to the Bedroom (1989)
  2. Smitten (1990)
  3. Wife for Hire (1990)
  4. The Rocky Road to Romance (1991)

Full/Max Holt Series

The Full series is co-written with Charlotte Hughes and blends romance, comedy, and light suspense. It starts with Full House, then follows the Max Holt books from there.

  1. Full House (1989; revised edition 2002)
  2. Full Tilt (2003)
  3. Full Speed (2003)
  4. Full Blast (2004)
  5. Full Bloom (2005)
  6. Full Scoop (2006)

Alexandra Barnaby Books

Alexandra Barnaby is a mechanic who gets pulled into fast-moving trouble with NASCAR driver Sam Hooker. These books have more action-adventure energy than Evanovich’s early romances, with cars, crime, and plenty of chaos.

  1. Metro Girl (2004)
  2. Motor Mouth (2006)
  3. Troublemaker Book 1 (2010) (Graphic Novel)
  4. Troublemaker Book 2 (2010) (Graphic Novel)

Hot/Cate Madigan Series

Hot Stuff is a co-authored romantic suspense novel from Evanovich and Leanne Banks. It follows Cate Madigan, a bartender whose ordinary life gets tangled up with danger, family drama, and a very inconvenient attraction.

  1. Hot Stuff (2007) (with Leanne Banks)

Lizzy and Diesel Books

The Lizzy and Diesel books spin out of the Diesel side of the Stephanie Plum world, but they have their own supernatural treasure-hunting setup. Lizzy Tucker is a baker with unusual abilities, and Diesel pulls her into a hunt tied to the seven deadly sins.

  1. Wicked Appetite (2010)
  2. Wicked Business (2012)
  3. Wicked Charms (2015) (with Phoef Sutton)

Culhane Family Series

The Culhane Family books are co-written with Dorien Kelly. They’re romance-focused stories about members of the Culhane family, with Love in a Nutshell set in the present day and The Husband List moving back to an earlier generation.

  1. Love in a Nutshell (2012) (with Dorien Kelly)
  2. The Husband List (2013) (with Dorien Kelly)

Fox and O’Hare Series

The Fox and O’Hare series pairs FBI agent Kate O’Hare with charming con man Nicolas Fox. It’s a crime-caper series with heists, undercover jobs, and a different feel from Stephanie Plum, even though the humor still feels very Evanovich.

  1. Pros and Cons (2013) (Short Story)
  2. The Heist (2013)
  3. The Caper (2013) (Online Exclusive Short)
  4. The Chase (2014)
  5. The Shell Game (2014) (Short Story)
  6. The Job (2014)
  7. The Scam (2015)
  8. The Pursuit (2016)
  9. The Big Kahuna (2019) (with Peter Evanovich)
  10. The Bounty (2021) (with Steve Hamilton)

Knight and Moon Series

The Knight and Moon books are co-authored with Phoef Sutton. They follow Emerson Knight, a rich and eccentric investigator, and Riley Moon, a financial analyst who gets pulled into his strange, high-stakes world.

  1. Curious Minds (2016) (with Phoef Sutton)
  2. Dangerous Minds (2017)

Gabriela Rose Series

Gabriela Rose is a recovery agent who tracks down lost and stolen treasures. These books lean into adventure, romance, and big treasure-hunt energy, with Gabriela and Rafer Jones constantly getting dragged into trouble that’s bigger than expected.

  1. The Recovery Agent (2022)
  2. The King’s Ransom (2025)

Janet Evanovich Standalone Books

These are Evanovich’s standalone novels that aren’t part of the series sections above. Most of them come from her early romance years, before Stephanie Plum became her signature character.

  1. Hero at Large (1987)
  2. Thanksgiving (1988)
  3. The Grand Finale (1988)
  4. Foul Play (1989)
  5. Manhunt (1989)
  6. Love Overboard (1989)
  7. Naughty Neighbor (1992)

Janet Evanovich Non-Fiction, Short Stories & Anthologies

Most Janet Evanovich readers can stick with the novels, but there are a few shorter pieces and extras worth knowing about. I’d treat these as completionist reads rather than required stops.

  1. The Plot Thickens (1997) (Anthology)
  2. The Last Peep (1997) (Stephanie Plum Short Story in The Plot Thickens)
  3. How I Write: Secrets of a Bestselling Author (2006) (Non-Fiction)
  4. Ranger Danger (2022) (Promotional Short Story)

Who is Janet Evanovich?

Janet Evanovich is an American author best known for the Stephanie Plum mystery series. She started out writing contemporary romance under the pen name Steffie Hall, then shifted into the fast, funny mystery style that made Stephanie Plum her breakout character.

That mix of romance, mystery, comedy, and chaotic side characters runs through a lot of her work. So while Stephanie Plum is the obvious starting point for many readers, Evanovich’s full bibliography has a wider range than people sometimes expect.

  1. I’m so happy I found this site on Pinterest this morning!! I honestly thought I’d read EVERYTHING Janet Evanovich had ever written (so far anyway!) & wanted to check on the release date for Thirty-One. Anyway, I ended up here & was absolutely shocked (& also delighted!) to learn that there are THREE series that I’ve been missing out on: Fox & O’Hare, Knight & Moon and Gabriella Rose. Crazy! Thank you so much for having such a comprehensive and up-to-date site! It’s awesome! 😊 📚
