The A Court of Thorns and Roses book series order follows publication order, beginning with A Court of Thorns and Roses. Sarah J. Maas’s fantasy-romance series, usually shortened to ACOTAR, has five published books, including the novella A Court of Frost and Starlight. Books 6 and 7 are scheduled for 2026 and 2027.
Feyre Archeron is taken to the faerie lands of Prythian after killing a wolf that was really a faerie. What begins with loose Beauty and the Beast influences grows into a much larger story of romance, war, and the rival courts of the Fae. I recommend reading the books straight through rather than skipping around.

Five ACOTAR books have been published: four full-length books and one novella. Two more books have confirmed release years.

The first three full-length books tell Feyre’s original main arc. A Court of Frost and Starlight stays with Feyre and Rhysand while setting up the next phase, and A Court of Silver Flames shifts the primary focus to Nesta and Cassian.
How A Court of Frost and Starlight Fits
Read A Court of Frost and Starlight after A Court of Wings and Ruin and before A Court of Silver Flames. You may see it labeled as either Book 3.5 or the fourth ACOTAR book, but its placement never changes.
It’s a quieter companion novella focused on the aftermath of the war, Feyre and Rhysand, and the Winter Solstice. I don’t recommend skipping it if you plan to continue. It bridges Feyre’s story with the shift toward Nesta and Cassian and provides some of the setup carried into A Court of Silver Flames.
ACOTAR Books 6 and 7
A Court of Thorns and Roses 6 is scheduled for October 27, 2026, followed by A Court of Thorns and Roses 7 on January 12, 2027. Those are placeholder names on the official listings; the final titles have not been announced.
Maas has described the upcoming books as one enormous story split across four parts and three physical volumes. Book 6 contains Part 1, Book 7 contains Parts 2 and 3, and a later undated ACOTAR book will complete Part 4.
I’d be cautious with claims about the lead character, central romance, or plot. None of those details has been officially confirmed, so fan theories should not be treated as part of the reading order.
ACOTAR and Crescent City Reading Order
You do not need to read Crescent City to understand the five published ACOTAR books. For the broader Sarah J. Maas reading order and all of the crossover material available before Books 6 and 7, my advice is to finish ACOTAR first and then read the three Crescent City books in order.

The crossover becomes important in the later Crescent City books, but House of Earth and Blood is still the necessary starting point for Bryce’s story. I would not jump directly to House of Sky and Breath just to reach the crossover.
