The Crescent City series order is simple: read the three published books in publication order, beginning with House of Earth and Blood. Sarah J. Maas has confirmed that a fourth book is planned, but it does not have an official title or release date.
The series follows half-human, half-Fae Bryce Quinlan through the modern fantasy world of Midgard. It begins as its own story, but later books connect Midgard with the wider Sarah J. Maas multiverse. I recommend reading the three Crescent City books straight through before worrying about any crossover order.

Crescent City Books in Publication Order
The Crescent City book order is also the story order, so there is no separate chronological list to follow. Three books have been published, and there are no separate novellas or short-story collections to place between them.
- House of Earth and Blood (2020)
- House of Sky and Breath (2022)
- House of Flame and Shadow (2024)
House of Earth and Blood introduces Bryce, Hunt Athalar, and the divided world of Midgard through a murder investigation with much larger consequences. House of Sky and Breath continues their story directly, and House of Flame and Shadow picks up after its cliffhanger while bringing the ACOTAR connection fully into the series.
My advice is not to skip the first book just to reach the crossover. Bryce’s relationships, Midgard’s politics, and the larger conflict all build across the series in order.
Crescent City Book 4
Sarah J. Maas has confirmed that she plans to write a fourth Crescent City book. She has said that she knows who the book will focus on and has the main ideas for the story, but it is farther down her publishing schedule.
No official title or release date has been announced. You may see House of Many Waters used in fan discussions, but that has not been confirmed as the title. I would treat any plot, character, or publication-date claims as speculation until Maas or Bloomsbury announces them.
ACOTAR and Crescent City Reading Order
Crescent City is not an ACOTAR prequel. The series begins in Midgard as its own story, while the later books reveal direct connections between Midgard and the world of A Court of Thorns and Roses.
You can start with House of Earth and Blood without reading ACOTAR first. Still, I think the crossover works best if you finish the five published ACOTAR books before moving through the complete Crescent City reading order.
