  1. #2,3 weren’t ‘historical’ when written imo But my comment is really to add two great books The Far Pavilions and Shadow of the Moon both by M M Kaye both big, sprawling, emotional books…find them they’re great
    But my comment is about the very best historical fiction ever written by a thousand miles are The Lymond Chronicle; 6 books written by Dorothy Dunnett..they are not easy but make yourself stick to them and you will have everything you want in fiction for the rest of your life reading and rereading.
