Twilight Series in Order | How to Read Stephenie Meyer’s Books

How do you read the Twilight series in order? Or perhaps you’re wondering how to watch the Twilight movies in order?

Full transparency, I’ve never read or watched these books.

Whoa. Hold on there. Don’t hit that back button yet.

One of the things I specialize here on my blog, in addition to book reviews, is reading orders and book lists.

I do the research so you don’t have to. So even though I have read the Twilight books, I do know how to arrange the Twilight series in order.

And it’s not as simple as you might think.

Twilight Saga Summary

Twilight is the fad series of my late teen years to early twenties. I’ll never forget when Twilight rode the popularity wave to its heights in the late 2000s.

My lack of interest in the series falls somewhere between being just beyond the target age and because I detest vampires.

Probably the latter.

So it’s safe to say I’ll never read or watch these books. I just don’t do vampires.

Twilight is the story of a girl who moves to a sleepy little town in Washington where she expects to be bored out of her mind. She is unaware that she’s about to step into a world of vampires in werewolves.

Even once she learns what they are, her desire for Edward can’t keep her out of that world. This marks the series as an Urban Fantasy/Paranormal Romance.

That reminds me, I also don’t like urban fantasy.

But you aren’t here for my opinions, you want your Twilight series in order, so let’s get on with it.

Twilight Series in Order (Books)

Here is a list of the Twilight series in order by Publication Date. This includes a novella you’re probably not familiar with:

  1. Twilight (2005)
  2. New Moon (2006)
  3. Eclipse (2007)
  4. Breaking Dawn (2008)
  5. The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner, An Eclipse Novella (2010)
  6. Midnight Sun (2020)

When do I read the Novella?

The only question that may arise from this reading order above is when to read the novella?

The more observant folks will notice that The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner is an Eclipse Novella.

So should you read it after Eclipse, or after Breaking Dawn when it was published?

That’s truly up to you. I don’t think there’s a wrong answer here. Those that wish to read the books as the original fans experienced it will want to read the Novella in publication order as listed above.

But those who want to keep the story flow intact, may choose to read the novella after Eclipse.

It’s all a matter of preference.

But how about the Twilight movies in order?

Twilight Series in Order (Movies)

Here is a list of the Twilight series in order by Publication Date. This includes a novella you’re probably not familiar with:

1. Twilight (2008)
2. New Moon (2009)
3. Eclipse (2010)
4. Breaking Dawn Part 1 (2011)
5. Breaking Dawn Part 2 (2012)

Will there be a Midnight Sun movie?

That’s a great question isn’t it?

No information is currently known (March 12, 2021) about whether there will be a Midnight Sun movie, but with a series as popular as Twilight, I wouldn’t be surprised if news breaks soon that one is in the works.

Considering that Midnight Sun published in 2020 out of the blue after more than 12 years of silence in the series and that the book published during the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s possible filmmakers will take awhile to adapt the latest book to the big screen.
