Who is Leigh Bardugo?

Leigh Bardugo is an award-winning author. She was born in Jerusalem but moved to the US when she was young, where she was raised by her grandparents in Los Angeles, California. Bardugo attended Yale University, graduating with a degree in English, before working in copywriting and journalism.

She then went on to pen several New York Times bestselling novels. She is the author of the popular Shadow and Bone trilogy and the Six of Crows duology. To the delight of fans Bardugo has said that she has plans to expand the books set within her Grishaverse world.

Within the acknowledgements of Six of Crows, Bardugo revealed that she has osteonecrosis and sometimes needs to use a cane. This inspired part of Kaz Brekker’s story, one the protagonists in Six of Crows, who uses a cane.

King of Scars Series

Are There Any Grishaverse Screen Adaptions?

You might have seen the hype in early 2021 surrounding the launch of Netflix’s adaption of Shadow and Bone. The show is based on the novel of the same name and was received well by critics. It stars Jessie Mei Li, Archie Renaux, Freddy Carter, Amita Suman, Kit Young, and Ben Barnes.

The show has already been renewed for a second season. According to Netflix statistics, the first season of Shadow and Bone was Netflix’s eighth most-watched English TV shows of all time with 55 million members tuning in during the first 28 days.

Bardugo has another screen adaption in the works as well.

Less than two days after the publication of Ninth House, it was announced that the book had been optioned by Amazon Studios following an intense bidding war to acquire the rights.

Bardugo is an executive producer on both Shadow and Bone and the upcoming Ninth House adaption. However, for Ninth House, she will also be on the writing team.

Not much more is known about the Ninth House adaption as of now. Per her last announcement. Bardugo is working on the script and the sequel to the book.
