DCeased Reading Order: Complete Saga, Comics & Collections

The DCeased reading order is simpler than its overlapping miniseries can make it look. Tom Taylor’s alternate-universe DC horror saga begins when a corrupted Anti-Life Equation spreads through connected screens, leaving Earth’s heroes and villains to face the Anti-Living.

You don’t need to read any other DC comics first. I recommend starting with the five collected editions below because they keep the complete story easy to follow, including the companion stories and the final chapter, War of the Undead Gods.

What Are the DCeased Comics All About?

DCeased Collected Editions in Order

For a first read, this is the order I prefer. It places the companion stories alongside the part of the saga they expand, then moves into the two main sequels.

The first DCeased collection includes issues #1–6 and DCeased: A Good Day to Die #1, so you don’t need to buy the one-shot separately. Unkillables collects #1–3, Hope at World’s End collects Digital Chapters #1–15, Dead Planet collects #1–7, and War of the Undead Gods collects #1–8.

Unkillables and Hope at World’s End primarily expand the original outbreak rather than advancing the main plot. I still recommend reading both before Dead Planet if you want the complete saga.

DCeased Core Story Order

If you only want the central storyline, focus on these three collected books. This is the shortest order that carries the main plot through its conclusion.

My advice is to use this order when you want the core story as quickly as possible. The first collection also includes A Good Day to Die #1, but you can skip Unkillables and Hope at World’s End without losing the central plot.

DCeased Publication Reading Order

The collected editions were released in the following order. This is a valid way to read the saga, although I prefer moving Hope at World’s End ahead of Dead Planet because its story takes place during the original outbreak.

DCeased Chronological Reading Order

The side stories overlap the original miniseries, so there isn’t a publisher-issued whole-issue timeline that resolves every scene perfectly. I treat this as a practical chronological order rather than an exact scene-by-scene sequence.

I recommend this order for a reread. First-time readers will usually have a smoother experience with the collected-edition order above.

A Good Day to Die and Unkillables #1 both overlap the period between DCeased #4 and #5, so those two entries can be swapped without creating a meaningful problem. Hope at World’s End fills the time jump between DCeased #5 and #6.

DCeased Omnibus, Box Set, and Alternate Editions

There are several ways to buy DCeased, but they don’t all contain the complete saga. Here’s what I recommend checking before choosing an edition.

DCeased Omnibus

The DCeased Omnibus (2025) is the simplest one-volume option. It collects the original miniseries, A Good Day to Die, Unkillables, Hope at World’s End, Dead Planet, and War of the Undead Gods.

DCeased Box Set

The DCeased Box Set (2023) contains all five standard collected editions. I prefer this option if you want the full saga in separate books instead of one large hardcover.

DCeased: The Deluxe Edition

DCeased: The Deluxe Edition (2023) collects only DCeased #1–6 and A Good Day to Die #1, along with extra artwork and behind-the-scenes material. It is not a deluxe collection of the entire saga.

DCeased: DC Compact Comics Edition

DCeased: DC Compact Comics Edition (2025) is a smaller-format edition of the first collected story. Like the Deluxe Edition, it does not include Unkillables, Hope at World’s End, Dead Planet, or War of the Undead Gods.

Because the standard first collection, Deluxe Edition, Compact Edition, box set, and omnibus all include A Good Day to Die #1, don’t buy the one-shot separately unless you’re collecting individual issues.

What Are the DCeased Comics All About?

DCeased is a self-contained DC horror saga written by Tom Taylor. The original six-issue miniseries was published in 2019, with art by Trevor Hairsine, James Harren, Neil Edwards, Stefano Gaudiano, and other creators. Later miniseries expand the outbreak and carry the story through its conclusion.

The story begins when Darkseid learns that one half of the Anti-Life Equation is hidden within Cyborg while he possesses the other half. DeSaad helps combine them, but the process corrupts the Equation. Darkseid becomes infected and destroys Apokolips, while Cyborg is sent back to Earth.

When Cyborg’s systems reconnect in Metropolis, the infection spreads through connected screens and rapidly reaches hundreds of millions of people. The surviving heroes and villains must decide what they’re willing to sacrifice as familiar DC characters become the Anti-Living.

In my view, the series works because it treats the apocalypse as more than a string of shocking deaths. It gives its heroes real emotional choices, keeps the consequences permanent within this alternate continuity, and still tells a complete story without requiring background reading.
